The Civil Society Co-Chair of the Kaduna State Open Government Partnership (OGP) Steering Committee, Mubarak Abdulganiyi, has commended Governor Uba Sani for reaffirming the state’s commitment to transparency and inclusive governance through the recent signing of a Letter of Support to the OGP Global Secretariat.
Abdulganiyi described the Governor’s action as a “historic step” that underscores Kaduna’s unwavering dedication to transparency, accountability, citizen participation, and technology-driven governance.
“This renewed commitment is a testament to the Governor’s vision of an inclusive, transparent, and people-centered administration,” Abdulganiyi said.

In the newly signed Letter of Support, Governor Sani emphasized that since taking office in May 2023, his administration has pursued a people-centered and inclusive agenda anchored on transparency and accountability.
The Governor highlighted the state’s seven-point Governance Agenda, which focuses on safety and security, infrastructure upgrade, institutional strengthening, trade and investment, agriculture, human capital development, and nurturing citizens’ engagement.
“Nurturing citizen engagement is one of the key pillars of our Governance Agenda. We are committed to sustaining timely platforms for citizens’ inputs into government policies, and embedding community engagement processes into policy development to ensure government decisions are evidence-based,” Governor Sani stated.
Abdulganiyi also commended Kaduna’s participatory budgeting approach through the Community Development Charter (CDC), which empowers citizens to make inputs into the state budget and monitor implementation.
He noted that initiatives such as the “Eyes and Ears” Citizens Feedback App recently recognized internationally for innovation further demonstrate the administration’s dedication to transparency and public involvement.
Governor Sani outlined other significant strides, including Kaduna’s pioneering role as the first state government in Nigeria to implement the full CoST Infrastructure Transparency Initiative approach. The state has also developed the first subnational Open Contracting portal designed to improve disclosure and promote fair business practices.
In his letter, the Governor reiterated his administration’s focus on rural transformation, citing infrastructure projects in education, health, and agriculture aimed at improving rural livelihoods and living standards. Additionally, he highlighted the creation of permanent dialogue mechanisms involving civil society and key government officials, a structure that has been extended to the legislature to deepen accountability and service delivery.
Abdulganiyi praised these efforts, emphasizing that the Governor’s leadership reflects a genuine commitment to fighting corruption, empowering marginalized groups, and fostering trust between government and citizens.
Governor Sani further showcased his administration’s dedication to economic inclusion by signing the first Executive Order on Financial Inclusion in Kaduna State. Through this effort, over 2.5 million poor and vulnerable citizens have been assisted in opening bank accounts, integrating them into the financial ecosystem and enabling them to benefit from social investment programs.
“With these reforms, Kaduna State is positioning itself as a model for learning and a beacon of good governance for other states and subnational governments,” Abdulganiyi added.
With the Letter of Support now uploaded to the OGP Global website, stakeholders and citizens alike look forward to continued progress in deepening open governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Kaduna State.
