Kaduna MICS 7: Assessment Visits Show Strong Community Engagement in Zaria

By Uangbaoje Alex, Kaduna

During an assessment visit to several survey centres in Zaria Local Government Area, officials observed strong cooperation from residents participating in the Seventh Round of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 7).

Dr. Bukar Baba-Alhaji, Statistician General of Kaduna State, confirmed that the survey has achieved over 90% coverage in the state, with only about 200 households remaining.

“The survey collects critical data on health, education, and socio-economic conditions to inform policy and development interventions,” he said.

Dr. Gerida Birukila of UNICEF Kaduna praised the communities for their openness, noting that MICS helps track progress, identify inequalities, and guide interventions in health, nutrition, education, and sanitation.

Community leader Alhaji Kasimu Abdullahi commended the survey team for respectful engagement, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the data collected translates into tangible development in Zaria and beyond.

Enumerator Fatima Ibrahim reported minimal refusals and high enthusiasm among households, saying the assessment visit confirmed the smooth progress of the survey.

The MICS 7 exercise continues across Kaduna State, serving as a critical tool for evidence-based policymaking and community-focused development.
