Kaduna Government Attribute Successes in Water Sanitation, Nutrition, HIV, Others to UNICEF

Kaduna State Government has noted that the milestones recorded in the areas of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health, HIV, Nutrition and other sectors can be linked to interventions provided to the State by the United Nations Children’s Funds (UNICEF) and other donor agencies.
The State Commissioner for Planning and Budget Commission, Muhammad Abdullahi, who was represented by Director, Development Aids Coordination, Pheobe Yayi, made this known at the UNICEF 2018 Mid Year Review Meeting on Tuesday in Kaduna.
Pheobi, said for a more effective, efficient and sustainable development, the state is finding other ways to better engage UNICEF for better results, because Kaduna has become a state where every other states are learning from.
She added that Kaduna was one of the last state in the North to subscribe to the Sanitation, Health Water and Hygiene in Nigeria (SHAWN), intervention programme, but has since overtaken all the states by coming tops in terms of results and that the fit was achieved because of the presence of UNICEF and other programmes.
“There have been serious improvement in the health care sector, there have been serious improvement in the Water and Sanitation, you are aware that in the Water and Sanitation sector we have the SHAWN project and some vehicles will soon be handed over to the remaining Local Government Areas, and this will mean that all the LGAs will be engaged in the SHAWN programme.” Phoebe said.
In his remarks earlier, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, Zakari Adam, who thanked participants for accepting to be part of the meeting despite their busy schedule, said the meeting was aimed at discussing what has been achieved for children in the state in the last six months and how to work for a better result in the next half of the year.
“The of today is in the framework of the mid term review of our interventions for the year 2018. We have put in place various intervention activities, in various sectors, now we have implemented all these plans in the last six months and we agreed to come together today to review what are our achievements, our challenges and basically how to improve on them in the rest part of the year.” Zakari explained.
