Kaduna Accountability Platforms Unite to Boost Budget Tracking and Advocacy Skills

As part of effort to drive transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centred service delivery, four key accountability platforms in Kaduna State have converged in Kano for a high-impact, four-day capacity strengthening workshop focused on budget performance analysis, monitoring, tracking, and evidence-based advocacy.
The workshop, which commenced on Tuesday in Kano, brings together members of the Kaduna Education Accountability Mechanism (KADBEAM), Maternal Accountability Mechanism Initiative in Kaduna (KADMAM), the Kaduna Local Government Accountability Mechanism (KADLGAM) and the Open Government Partnership.

The workshop is jointly organised by the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria and the UK-Nigeria Partnership for a Healthier Future (Lafiya Program).
Speaking at the opening session, Rilwan Ope, Public Financial Management Intervention Manager at PLANE, said the workshop is strategically designed to arm accountability actors with the tools and strategies needed to respond to modern governance challenges in education and health.
“This is not just another training. It’s a strategic engagement packed with sessions that will strengthen our capacity to track budget performance, monitor implementation, and develop smarter advocacy strategies.
“We want to move from conversation to action, from analysis to influence, and from intention to measurable impact,” Ope noted.
The four-day programme is focused on sharpening participants’ ability to analyse government plans and budget performance, assess project implementation outcomes, and track Unlocking Key Capabilities, a flagship priority area under PLANE aimed at improving sectoral results.
Also addressing participants, Zainab Waziri, who represented the Lafiya Program, issued a strong call for renewed commitment and tangible progress.
“We are hopeful that this time, the results will speak for themselves. We believe in your voice and your capacity.
“But now, we want to see actions that bring about visible change. The time for business-as-usual is over,” Waziri said.
She stressed that the collaborative investment in the workshop reflects a growing urgency to bridge the gap between policy promises and actual service delivery in communities across Kaduna State.
Stakeholders believe the event could serve as a model for subnational accountability mechanisms working to influence governance through data-driven advocacy and stronger citizen engagement.
The Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria is a UK-funded education programme focused on improving foundational learning and accountability in governance.
The Lafiya Program supports health sector reform, integrated service delivery, and sustainable health financing under the UK-Nigeria partnership.
