Two leading education accountability platforms in Kaduna State the Kaduna Basic Education Accountability Mechanism (KADBEAM) and the Kaduna Local Government Accountability Mechanism (KADLGAM), have pledged stronger collaboration with the PLANE Project to champion the Bëtá Nigeria Campaign.

Bëtá Nigeria is an advocacy initiative aimed at amplifying citizens’ voices for improved education service delivery.

The strategic engagement meeting, held focused on integrating the accountability forums into the Bëtá Nigeria Campaign to strengthen local leadership, ownership, and sustainability of education advocacy in the state.

Speaking during the session, Diana Agabi, PLANE’s Kaduna State Team Lead, said the meeting was a critical step toward ensuring that government and civil society organizations (CSOs) take greater ownership of education reform efforts.

“This meeting is about amplifying our collective voice. We want to ensure that citizens’ concerns about education are heard and acted upon, not just in Kaduna but across Nigeria.

“Organizations like KADBEAM and KADLGAM Under Education have been doing incredible work, and the Bëtá Nigeria Campaign gives us a unified platform to push for accountability and real change in the education sector,” Agabi said.

The Communication Manager of PLANE, Bukola Bayo-Philip, described the Bëtá Nigeria Campaign as a platform that brings together individuals and groups committed to promoting a more accountable Nigeria.

“Our goal is to make the campaign more sustainable and community-driven.

“By integrating efforts with KADBEAM and KADLGAM, we can strengthen grassroots advocacy and ensure education remains a top government priority,” she explained.

During the meeting, both accountability forums shared key achievements, including successful advocacy for inclusive school infrastructure, greater citizen participation in budget processes, and pushing for an increase in education budget allocation upto 26%.

They also highlighted areas where they need further support, such as developing effective advocacy messages, media engagement, digital communication, and bridging the gap between CSOs and communities.

At the end of the meeting, participants agreed to co-create a joint plan for implementing the Bëtá Nigeria Campaign, with Alex Uangbaoje and Alhaji Waje appointed as focal persons to lead the collaboration between the two forums.

The initiative, supported by PLANE, is expected to enhance education accountability and strengthen the participation of citizens and civil society groups in driving reforms across Kaduna State.
