Journalist Arrest: ‎Kaduna NUJ Withdraws It’s Activities From State Government

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) ‎Saturday ordered her members participating at the ongoing Two-Day Interactive Workshop for Newspaper Correspondents Covering Kaduna State, Producers of Programme on Radio and Staff of Kaduna State Media Cooperation organized by Officer of the Special Advisers to Governor on Media and Communication in collaboration with Journalism Clinic.

The NUJ chairman, Mallam Garba Muhammed gave the order when he visited the venue of the event after various attempts to get Jacob Onjewu Dickson, publisher of Authentic News Daily who was arrested by the Kaduna Police Command on an alleged inciting publication online. 

‎The chairman while addressing the Journalists said it has become imperative for the journalists to boycott all media activities till further notice pending when the arrested journalist will be released. 

“If you know you are a bonafide  member of the Union, you have to vacate ‎this activity, as you all know, our member has been in detention and we have tried all avenue for his release but it seems they are not cooperating.

“The decision was an order from the National Secretariat and a resolution from the State Executive Council meeting.

“Henceforth we will suspend every activity in the state until of member is released to us‎, the interest of our members should be on how to secure the release of Jacob”.

Recalled that Jacob was arrested on Thursday by the state Police Command for publishing a story at about the stoning of Governor Nasir El-Rufai during his visit to ‎ Badarawa Kwaru, to intervene in a ‎crisis that erupted Sunday night between Angwan-Yaro and Badarawa Kwaru community in kaduna.‎

Jacob was however arraigned secretly by the State government and sent to prison without bail until 12th may ‎2016 for hearing.
