IGP orders massive deployment of officers to ensure hitch-free sallah celebrations
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has directed the Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and all Commissioners of Police in state commands to deploy adequate personnel to cover all the Eid-El-Kabir praying grounds, recreation centres, public places, public infrastructures, utilities and other points and venues where celebration would take place.
He also directed that Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Units, Explosive Ordinance Department and personnel of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to be deployed to all the locations mentioned above, while sustained surveillance and special attention should be paid to flash/vulnerable points and other identifiable hot spots to prevent criminalities during the Sallah celebration and beyond.
In a statement yesterday in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Don Awunah, noted that to ensure adequate security and guarantee utmost protection of life and property during the celebration and throughout the public holidays, the IGP urged Police commanders to collaborate with other security agencies, cultivate intelligence and interface with community leaders to monitor the activities of undesirable elements in the society, who may take undue advantage of the public holidays to cause mischief and disturb public peace.
