Comptroller of Immigration Kaduna state command, Nuhu Apang-Takum has said that the process used in the disbursement of the allowance for those that participated in the presidential polls was transparent and open.
Reacting to reports of discrepancies with other agencies, Apang-Takum pointed out that the funds from the National Headquarters was based on the number of local government areas.
He also noted that the welfare for each officer varies based on rank and the place of work, adding that “in Kaduna state we mobilize 330 officials and it varies from state to state”.
His words, “Because of the National assignment which we are all aware of, the national Headquarters of the immigration in its magnanimity decided to send welfare to the commands, the criteria there use was based on the number of local governments so it varies from states to state.
“But on the disbursement the amount varies based on rank and the place of work, like for example someone that went to Sanga local government which is about 3 and a half hours from Kaduna town and somebody that went to Chikun local government area, the transportation cannot be the same. So you will expect discrepancies in the welfare packages.
“But in my spirit of openness a committee was set up which handles the disbursement of the funds, but then the officials were annoyed by the time they went out that monies was not given before the assignment but the fact remains that the money came on the eve of the elections towards afternoon so there was no way we could have gone to the bank.
“I want to say that the whole process of disbursing the welfare was transparent and the papers are there for all to see everybody signed the papers as they collect their monies. Everybody here collect between 3 – 40 thousand Naira depending on the place of work and the rank of the official involved.
“Anybody that is not happy with the situation can come to us and we will explain what happened and how the funds were dispatched, adding that even the one for the today’s election has been given out to those involved.”
