Edo speaker, deputy impeached
The political crisis in Edo state has shown no sign of abating as the speaker Mr. Victor Edoror and deputy speaker, Mr. Bright Osayande of the state house of assembly were on Tuesday impeached.
The two lawmakers were reportedly accused of misconduct by their 16 other colleagues. Mrs. Elizabeth Ative was elected as the new speaker.
Governorship elections in the state are billed to hold in September with the incumbent governor. Adams Oshiomole’s second tenure comes to a close.
The deputy governor of the state Dr Odubu has declared interest to run for the governorship seat. Days after his declaration, he was reportedly attacked by gunmen at the Auchi All Progressive Congress (APC) secretariat but escaped unhurt.
