Edo APC Split, as 3 Factions, Emerge
……Godwin Erhahon declares support for Odubu faction
The crisis in the Edo APC is fast degenerating as the party in Edo State has been polarised along three mutually disagreeable factions; the Oshiomhole faction,the Odubu faction and the decampees faction.
That state chairman of the party, Barr Anselm Ojezua is said to be reluctantly on the Oshiomhole faction while the state publicity secretary, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, who until recently was Oshiomhole Man-Friday, has fallen out with Oshiomhole and declared support for Odubu, warning the governor of that APC will fail if he fielded Godwin Obaseki.
In a Facebook post made by Comrade Godwin Erhahon, yesterday, the Edo State APC publicity secretary stated that “If the ongoing hostilities continue(d), he for whose benefit leaders are being victimised (referring to Godwin Obaseki) will have course (cause) to blame his hostile supporters for his failure”.
This rather dramatic post by Godwin Ehahon has sparked a wave of reactions among leaders and supporters of the APC in their various factions. The Odubu faction has warned that they control the political structure of the party and would frustrate the APC if Oshiomhole continues to humiliate Odubu who everyone agrees has been loyal to a fault.
The Oshiomhole faction which is led by Edo state governor has perfected plans to impeach Odubu and weaken his capacity to cause damage to the APC in the event that he is edged out of the party primaries. According to a rumour that has gained currency in town, members of the legislative arms were offered fifty million each to give their signature for the purpose of impeachment of the deputy governor. When contacted the members of the legislative house denied the allegation and said they do not have such plans.
Meanwhile, the Odubu faction is not leaving any stone unturned in this epic battle for survival. Odubu has vowed not to back out of the race. The deputy governor is relying on his touted political structure within the APC Edo state and the remnant of the Edo In Safe Hands Group who are allegedly not disposed to supporting Godwin Obaseki, the governor’s candidate.
Meanwhile a third faction comprising those who decamped from the PDP is led by former governor of Edo State, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor. They are aggrieved that Oshiomhole reneged on the promise he made to each of them before they decamped that the gubernatorial ticket would be open to them in a free contest. They were of the opinion that the governor would support at least one of them. But the governor seems to have forgotten that they are still members of the APC Edo state. The members of this group include Engr Chris Ogiemwonyi, Barr Ken Imasuangbon, Gen Charles Airhiavbere, and others.
