ECWA Goodness Clinches Kaduna SWAN Secondary Schools Indoor Sports
ECWA Goodness Secondary School have emerged champions of the maiden Kaduna State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Secondary Schools Indoor Sports, concluded at the weekend in Kaduna.
They won one gold, one silver medal to beat Kalimat Academy who settled for the second position with one gold, one bronze, while, Kaduna Capital School placed third with one gold medal.
The Zonal Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Olusola Luke commended SWAN for the initiative, while calking on other states within the geopolitical zone to emulate same.
Luke, represented by a senior staff of the zone, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris said that the competition was in line of the policy thrust of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports development geared towards grassroots sports development.
“I have been mandated by the Zonal Coordinator to extend the goodwill of the Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung and Director Grassroots Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are,” he said.
Speaking further, he assured SWAN that the zonal office is always willing to partner them towards development of sports.
“Anytime you need anything from our office, don’t hesitate to let us know as long as it is geared towards sports equipment, be it venue or equipment,” he added.
In his remarks, Kaduna SWAN Chairman, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin assured that it will be an annual event.
“It is in the spirit if togetherness, spirit of making Kaduna better and greater and discovering talents,” he said.
High point of the event was the presentation of medals and trophies to winners.
The competition was supported by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, who gave cash support.
MicroManna Computers and Kaduna SWAN patron, Engineer Musa Nimrod also supported with cash, while the Director Grassroots Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are, donated all the trophies.
The North West Zonal office supported the competition by providing the venue.
The two-day competition was the first of its kind and was keenly contested by public and private secondary schools.
Four events were billed to hold, but schools only registered for table tennis, scrabble and chess, with volleyball getting no participants.
