By Alex Uangbaoje, Kaduna
Emergency and Security Agencies in Kaduna have expressed readiness to combat any incidence of disaster that might happen in the State during the upcoming general elections.
The agencies, at a Security Centres and Disaster Management meeting on Friday, said they are prepared to mitigate any issue rather than allow them get to the level of response.
After taking brief from all the agencies, Executive Secretary of Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), Muhammed Mu’azu Mukaddas, noted that he is confident that the elections in Kaduna will not only be free and fair, but will be the most peaceful in the history of the state.
“Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency and it’s stakeholders are prepared for the upcoming elections, we have put out contingency plan in place which have positioned our preventive and mitigative powers and I can see that all agencies have all activated their first phase of emergency management.
“We have deployed security agencies across sensitive facilities and we are all ready for tomorrow’s election.” The ES said.
He urged all agencies yet to complete their deployment to do so in good time, saying “for some of us that are yet to carry out deployment, I encourage each and everyone of you to kindly return and debrief whoever you are representing so that such deployment will be done to prevent any emergency occurrence.
“We can not wait to begin to respond after the occurrences. Let’s try as much as possible to ensure that nothing happens during this weekend election and that of March 11.
“And where something happens, we must try as much as possible to reduce the impact on our citizens. So we are prepared and we must remain at alert until the electioneering period is over.
“We must continue to be vigilant, we must continue to monitor what is going on, in and around Kaduna State.”
The various security agencies had earlier briefed the gathering on their level of preparedness and how they arrested a situation that could have led to a major crisis in the state when they got intelligence that some hoodlums were planning to attack some financial institutions, markets and other public places over the hardship occasioned by scarcity of cash.
They promised to work tirelessly to ensure there’s peace before, during and after the elections as security Agents were already deployed to all the polling units in the State.
They called on citizens to remain law abiding by voting and return to their home and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, rather than take laws into their hands.
The meeting had representatives of the Nigerian Police, Army, DSS, Civil Defence, Fire Service, FRSC, KASTLEA, Kaduna Vigilance Service, NEMA, Red Cross and the Media, amongst others.
