Ashiru Warns INEC, Security Agencies Against Manipulating Kaduna Bye-Elections
Former Kaduna State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Right Honourable Isa Mohammed Ashiru, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to guarantee free, fair and transparent conduct of Saturday’s August 16 bye-elections in Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Zaria Kewaye State Constituency, and Basawa State Constituency.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ashiru urged electoral officials and law enforcement agents to create an atmosphere where eligible voters can freely exercise their rights without intimidation.
“The growing allegations that plans to rig the elections in favour of the ruling APC have already been perfected can be effectively disproved only if Electoral Officers and Law Enforcement Agents demonstrate absolute impartiality before, during and after the exercise,” he said.
Ashiru warned that any deliberate violation of the law to manipulate results could trigger unrest, stressing that transparency remains the only guarantee for credible leadership.
He also advised voters to remain vigilant and ensure their ballots count, while calling on all stakeholders to patriotically discharge their responsibilities to protect the credibility of the polls.
