By Chris Suleiman, Abuja

The Anambra Senatorial re-run candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Sharon Ikeazor, has said the numerical strength of women in the state would give her victory against the APGA candidate, Chief Victor Umeh,  while adding that she is sure to coast home to victory in the for coming election through this means.

Ikeazor spoke with newsmen after she had received the APC ticket as the candidate of the party yesterday at the national secretariat in Abuja, also revealing that she and senator Uche Ekwunife, have now teamed up and their structures joined together to achieve her political ambition.

Reacting to question on Chief Umeh as her major contender, she said:  “If Umeh was a national chairman of a party, I was also the national woman leader of CPC. Do you know the percentage of the voters? The gender percentage of the voters in Nigeria? Or even of our population, we are about 51%, we are using our numerical strength. Majority of the voters in Nigeria are women and I am tapping into that, even my victory in securing the ticket is a victory for women, we have just shown that women voices can be heard, would be heard and have been heard so Anambra men, Chief Victor Umeh will hear the voice of the women on the day of election.”

On what she will do if voted as Senator, the former acting women leader of APC said:  The most important thing on my agenda for the people of Anambra is economic development because our people are basically businessmen and women. We need an Inland seaport,  functional inland seaport that is number one. So that our traders can be bringing in their goods into that Inland seaport.

“Number two in the second Niger bridge, we have all suffer the chaos about the bridge, the contract has been re-awarded several times, how many years after nothing concrete has been done. But now, with this government in place, that is being looked into by the Minister of Works who luckily is a colleague of my at the bar.

“Then the third one, Federal Roads, we all know the state of Enugu-Onitsha roads, we all suffered it, who better to bring in the federal presence, federal projects, repairs and all our dues in Anambra but myself who has been the foundation member of APC.

“But this does not remove me from issues of women in Anambra State.  Micro credit for women, we have to financially empowered our women, we talked about women empowerment, no, it goes beyond that, they must be able to earn income, this is paramount, which what I have already started through my own NGO to Internally Displaced Women, this I started in a larger scale in Anambra, starting with the widows who are the most vulnerable. Issues of youth employment, we have seen the issues of our young people in Anambra State in the last crisis we had with the boys protesting Biafra and all that, this boils down to social justice. If they were employed, if they were well informed, we will not be having the issues of youth restiveness. So these are things I will be looking into.”
