Alleged Anti-Party: Gov Otti, Sen. Kingibe, Others Suspected Indefinitely from LP

By Uangbaoje Alex, Kaduna

The Labour Party (LP) on Wednesday announced the indefinite suspension of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi, citing alleged anti-party activities.

The decision follows the conclusion of investigations by a five-man Disciplinary Committee set up on May 2, 2025, by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). The committee, chaired by Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi and supported by National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, was tasked with probing alleged misconduct by the listed party members.

After reviewing the committee’s findings, the NEC ratified the suspension during a meeting held on May 7, 2025.

“By this suspension, these former members of the party will no longer act for and on behalf of the party. All concerned institutions including the Nigeria Governors Forum, the National Assembly, INEC and security agencies among others are to take note,”
Umar Farouk Ibrahim, LP National Secretary

Clarification on Nenadi Usman

In the same statement, the party addressed the omission of Nenadi Usman from the suspension list, clarifying that she is not a registered member of the Labour Party but rather a member of the Obidient Support Group. The LP accused her of political inconsistency and alleged past involvement in corruption cases.

“Ms Usman lacks the moral capacity to commence any probe or even talk about corruption,” the party stated, challenging her to publicly explain her plea bargain with the EFCC, property acquisitions in Nigeria and abroad, and business interests allegedly spanning to Cameroon.

On Coalition Talks

The Labour Party further reiterated its position against forming any coalition or merger ahead of the 2027 general elections, criticizing the credibility and competence of those championing such discussions.

“These are people who have failed to manage one political party; how can they manage an amalgam of political parties and their varied interests?” the statement read.

The party concluded by asserting its readiness to contest the next general elections as an independent and standalone political force, insisting it will entertain no further coalition proposals.
