Two thousand athletes are to participate in this year’s Research Institutes Games Association of Nigeria (RIGAN) sports festival taken place at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology Zaria in Kaduna State by November.
The participants were drawn from thirty five Research Institutes across Nigeria who have already indicated their interest by registering for the games.
The chairman Local Organising Committee (LOC) Dr. Aminu Musa Yusuf, who is also Director General/Chief Executive NITT, disclosed this at a press conference on the institute’s preparedness to host the games.
According to him, “NITT is aware of the enormous task and the challenges ahead of hosting hundreds of athletes, visitors and members of the press from different parts of the country.
“In order not to give room for lapses, arrangements are being made to supplement the institute’s facilities with Ahmadu Bello University sports facilities. To this end, renovation and rehabilitation work will commence as soon as the funds for that purpose is released.
“It is also worth stating that the Institute’s 350 capacity mini-auditorium and the adjoining classrooms have been designated to serve as games secretariat and for some in-door games during the festival.”
The NITT boss said the RIGAN 2015 Games who’s motto is “LETS GO ZAZZAU” is a ten days event that will commence 27th November to 6th December.
Dr. Aminu noted that though the 42million naira approved by the federal government for the games has not yet been released, but some private organisations are already showing interest for sponsorship.
“I am pleased to inform you that Globalcom Nigeria Limited hass responded favourably by indicating it’s interest to sponsor the branding of the games venues. ” He revealed.
