Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Johnson Bamidele Olawumi, has warned youths in the country especially corps members that‎ anyone found making inflammatory statements about Nigeria particularly on social media will no longer be rewarded.

He said the time has come for all Nigerians to appreciate and add values to the country through positive pronouncement about the country and its leaders, quoting President Muhammadu Buhari as saying corps members are expected to champion the course of change in the country and as such, should use the social media to promote the country’s image.

The NYSC DG, who gave the warning at the weekend during his camp tour to Kaduna Orientation camp, said hence forth the NYSC will monitoring of corps members online in order to know what they say about their country. Adding “Don’t think that the problems we are facing in Nigeria is peculiar to only Nigerian but across the globe, therefore avoid making negative comments about Nigeria.”

“It is better you present your opinion in such away that it will show high level of patriotism to the country including your places of primary assignment. Always pray for the peace of the country. Very soon, we want to see how we can bring back those culture which Mr President introduced in 1984”, he stated.

Gen. Olawumi, charged them to take their skills acquisition training‎ seriously as “Mr. president has instructed the scheme to train the Nigerian graduates in such a way that they will be willing to be part of the change everyone has been talking about.”

He  hinted that government alone cannot provide the needed jobs required in the country as “2015 batch ‘A’ alone has over 100,000 corps members deployed nationwide, hence the need to take skill acquisition and entrepreneurial opportunity programme very seriously so you can get something doing after their service year.‎”

He however assured them of security, quickly added that their security was very paramount to the scheme right from the camp through the service year which was  why the scheme introduced security lectures.

“For those of you who are interested in the skill acquisition to guide against searching for job, please take the programme serious. There is already soft loan plan for you to start your business on a small scale after a well written proposal may have been submitted. Please avoid anything that can make you run into trouble because we want to return you safely back to your parents”, he added.

The Kaduna State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Hilary Nasamu, has in his welcome address said, the camp has not experience any break of peace since the beginning of the orientation, believing there is hope for Nigeria as present crop of corps members are well disciplined.

Meanwhile corps members appreciated the DG for the introduction of online registration for the prospective corps members, saying it has ease the process and save more lives as it has reduced the movement of corps members from school to home and vise-versa
