Kaduna Gov’t Targets Tourism for Job Creation – Commissioner
The Kaduna Youth ,Sports and Culture Commissioner ,Mr. Daniel Amuze Dan-Auta on Thursday said the state government is currently exploring tourists sites, places and festival locations across the state that have potentials to create employment opportunities for teeming youth in the state.
According to the Commissioner , a well designed and executed festival have a tendency of being popular amongst tourist and injecting extra revenue into the host region .
Speaking during an interactive forum with members of the Kaduna Correspondents’ Chapel on achievements of the Ministry, Governor Nasir El-Rufai led administration has not only focused on identifying the various historic sites in the state ,but also prepared to march words with action to developed the sites for business and jobs creation.
His words : “The pragmatic administration of Malam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai has since focused on identifying the various historic cultural sites , which took me to the Nok Cultural sites in Jaba Local Government Area of the state with a view of upgrading the facilities for the start as discussions with international partners who proposed to uplift it to a world heritage center, which would translate into jobs creation and socio-economic development of the state.”
While explaining that the Ministry is mandated to protect and preserve the culture of Kaduna state people and cultural artifacts for future generations, he said , “As part of its activities the department last month hosted the 44th Meeting of the Executive of Culture of the Federation , CEC with a view to taking decisions to reposition the sector into economic potentials of cultural heritage and improve grassroots development.”
According to him , one of highlights of the recommendations from the meeting was to fine tune strategies towards staging at least one regionally festival in each of the geo-political zone for purpose of accelerating commercial and economic activities.
On youth development programme, he said the youth department of Sports Ministry has had several capacity trainings workshops and seminars as well skill acquisition to update professional knowledge and reduce unemployment as well as restiveness
He also disclosed that recently, principal officers in the development department of the Ministry led the three state representative in the Nigeria Youth Parliament toured the 23 local government areas of the state to enlighten youth about the youth parliament and the result is overwhelming .
While explaining that the mandate of the Ministry among others is to prepare the youth adequately for self-fulfilment , he said , “Kaduna state government is conscious of the fact that sports are a veritable tool to arrest youth restiveness and provide sustainable employment and a means of livelihood .
On the issue of NYSC , the Commissioner noted that the department has been successful is coordinating the activities of NYSC in the state over one year .
” Payment of augmentation for NYSC 2015 Batch ‘A’ stream 1 and 2 orientation camp expenses of 7,500,000 and 5,000,000 respectively to NYSC state Secretariat. ” He added.
