CBN Junior Tennis Open: Outstanding Bulus and McLeod Clinches Top Spot

Lagos Chris Bulus defeated Kaduna based Chris Itodo 9-8 to emerge the winner of the U-18 category of the just concluded Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Junior Tennis championship yesterday.

In the female category‎,Angel Mcleod also from Lagos defeated Marylove Edwards to emerge winner of the U-16 girls category, while Abuja Samonu Abubakar defeated Lagos Michael Oshewa 9-7 in the same category.

 

David Dawariye from Portharcourt ‎ won the U-14 boys category slams Friday Victor also from Portharcourt 9-2 while in the girls match of the same category, Favour Moses from Kaduna defeated Temire Maxwell from Portharcourt 9-7.

The U-12 category saw Ajanaku Abdullahi from Lagos displaying superiority over Clement Dickson from Kaduna when he trashed him 9-4. In the same category, Rebecca Ekpeyong from Portharcourt emerge winner of the girls in that category defeating Iye Onoja from Kaduna 9-8.

Ezekiel Azi from Abuja defeated Lucky Danjuma 9-7 to emerge winner of the boys U-10 while Salamatu Haruna from Abuja defeated Mary Azi from Abuja 9-5.
Temire Maxwell and Suleiman Ibrahim‎ both bagged the Most Outstanding Players of the 2016 CBN sponsored Junior tennis championship which ended in Kaduna yesterday.

‎The CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele who was represented by the Acting Director Corporate Communication Department Isaac Okorafor expressed satisfaction with the performance of the players.

While further expressing delight at the improvement and the ‎sponsorship which is geared towards encouraging the youths to participate actively in sports, he urged organizations in Nigeria to partner with CBN in developing the youths.

“We wish to reaffirm the commitment of the management of the CBN to the continued sponsorship of the tournament towards the promotion and development of the game of tennis in Nigeria.”

Highlight of the closing ceremony was the presentation of prizes which include Tennis rackets, balls, canvass amongst others to respective winners.
