A Kaduna based Non-governmental not-for-profit organization, Women Connect Initiative (WCI) with support from AMKAACUS Foundation and Professor Aliyu Mohammed Foundation (PAMF) is set to empower 200 girls in Zaria ahead of the ‘Day-of-the Girl-child’ celebration next week.
The coordinator of WCI, Hajiya Murjanatu Suleiman-Shika made this known during the weekend while addressing journalists in Zaria. According to her, statistics on the development of the Girl-child, especially in Northern Nigeria is depressing.
“Northwest states are rated poorly in terms of girls education, access to health facilities and enterprise development for girls. As an organization, we are committed to improving the capacity of the Girl-child especially in three core areas; education, health and enterprise development.
“We have targeted 200 girls for empowerment between this year to next year. The empowerment will come in the form of scholarships for girls, training in several life skills and business development and access to credits”, she said.
Going further, Hajiya Murjanatu Suleiman-Shika said that a ‘One-day Workshop on the Prospects of Girl-child Education’ which WCI organizes is targeted at promoting girls education in Zaria.
