Former NUJ Secretary Storms Court In Rags, Protests ‘Gagging’ Of Journalists In Kaduna

Worried by the pending cases against journalists in Kaduna State and the incarceration of former Vanguard Newspapers correspondent, former Secretary of Kaduna Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Dominic Uzu protested to the premises of the Kaduna State High Court on Thursday.
Chief Uzu who was dressed in sack cloth to the court, carried placards which carried messages against unfair treatment to journalists.
When speaking to newsmen, he said that he decided to embark on the lone action to show his worries concerning safety of journalists in Kaduna.
He decried incessant arrests, intimidation and prosecution of journalists.
“This is too much. We are pained by the ugly development. Right now four of our colleagues within two years have tasted court or prison. We cannot say who is next to be targeted for arrest, it could be me.
“The Director Public Prosecution took my pictures when he saw me here on this protest and I told him that I am waiting if they want to arrest me,” he said.
On advise to Kaduna journalists, he charged them to remain firm and resolute, do their jobs professionally without fear.
“Prison is meant for humans not animals. If they like they should arrest and send all the journalists bin Kaduna to prison, it won’t stop us from doing our jobs,” he vowed.
