​ABU Zaria Alumni Embarks on Over N300 Million Projects

Alumni of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), said she is currently providing a number of projects for the institution as part of her  Corporate Social Responsibility.


Addressing a press conference in Kaduna on Thursday, chairman of the association, Professor Ahmed Tijjani, stated that since he took office two years ago as the chairman, a lots of developmental projects has been achieved.


According to him, a Postgraduate Hostel worth over N200 million and overhead pedestrian bridge at the North Gate, in Samaru, Zaria across the busy Zaria-Sokoto Highway worth N80 million among others are currently being constructed.


Projects of the Association in an attempt to provide conducive environment for teaching, learning and research; Since coming into office, two (2) years ago the present National Executive Committee (NEC) has focused on four (4) key projects in an attempt to augment University Management’s efforts in ensuring an enabling environment for teaching, learning and research to take place. 


“The four (4) projects are as follows; The building of the Overhead Pedestrian Bridge at the North Gate, ABU, Samaru, Zaria across the busy Zaria-Sokoto Highway (N80,000,000.00).


“The Laptop Computer Loan Scheme for Students through Omatek Ventures distribution Ltd, the Intra-City-Bus Shuttle Service for Students to begin initially with five number, 33 Seater Buses. The ABU Alumni Association Postgraduate Hostel (N200,308,000.00).


“I find it necessary to address this Press Conference essentially to highlight three (3) key issues in respect of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association for the purpose of enlightening members of the public of the efforts of the Association in promoting learning, teaching, research and community services in the great Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.” He added.


Professor Ahmed explained that, “many have been knocked down by fast moving vehicles along the Zaria Sokoto highway which divides the Samaru village and the Main Campus. Some have died while others have lost limbs. 

“And i am pleased to state that a distinguished Alumnus of the University, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, GCON has undertaken to construct the overhead pedestrian bridge as a project of the ABU Alumni Association estimated to cost N80,000,000.00 (Eighty Million Naira Only). As we are speak now, work is on-going and the project is about 60% completed.”
