‎NYG 2016: Delta, Ogun, Kwara Top Medals Table

Delta state yesterday emerged Champions of the just concluded 2nd edition of the National Youth ‎Games (NYG) which took place at Illorin.

According to the medal table released by the Chairman, Technical sub-committee of the games, Dr. Emmanuel U Igbinosa‎, Delta state emerged champions with 9 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Ogun State came second with 8 gold, 12 silver and 5 bronze medal while the host state Kwara came third in the medal table with 8 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Recall that ‎Delta State was the Champion in the 1st edition of the NYG which took place in Abuja in 2013.

‎Speaking on the performance of the Delta athletes who participated in all events, Chairman, Delta State sport commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa attributed their performance to hard work and relentless commitment.

“Yes, we have come as a defending champions in the game, seen and again conquered, however there is still more that needs to be done.

“Although we won, let it be known that the essence of the games is fundamentally to discover talents who will represent the country in international competitions and make the country proud.

“The onus now lie on the federation to develop talents that have been discovered for future competitions.”

He assured that as a government, all their athletes particularly those who have made the state proud will be motivated in any way possible.

Director, grassroot sport development in the Federal Ministry of youth and sport development and chairman of the main organizing committee, Dr Ademola Are in his closing remarks commended all the participating states for their show of commitment.
