Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has hailed the organisers of Angwan Rimi Peace Cup pointing out that promoting  sports at the grassroot level has the potential of curbing societal ills among young people in the society.

The governor who  spoke during the final match of the Second Edition of the football competition sponsored by a sports  enthusiast, Engineer Yusuf Abubakar played at Rimi College playing ground.

Governor El-rufai who was represented by his Special Assistant on NGO, Ahmad Muhktar Monrovia also urged the organisers  not to relent in their effort, but rather they should do more and even surpassed their current efforts by extending the gesture beyond football to other sports.

The governor expressed happiness that the competition is aimed at achieving peace, which he said is in line with the policies of the state government. “This game is organise for the sake of peace and look at the huge crowd that gathered here for the sake of football for peace.

Governor El-rufai however, call on other well meaning youths in the society to emulate the kind gesture of  Yusuf. Abubakar who singlehandedly bankroll the competition.

Also speaking at the event is the Chairman of Kaduna state Football Association, Mr. Abdulkadir Magaji Kapaka who commended the level of play in the competition while calling on scout to always make themselves available in places like this.

Kapaka added that, the state FA is working hard to ensure youth footballers at the grassroots  have successful  transition from grassroots to professional level through the invitation of world class Agents and managers who would help nurture raw talents to stardom.

He promised to give special recognition to the sponsor while also calling. On. Him. To extend the competition to the 23 local government areas of the state.

On his part, chairman of Highlanders Football Club and former Chairman Kaduna United, Alhaji Sabo Babayaro said competition like this deserve the attention of football administrators, according to him, this is what we supposed to be doing to ensure a smooth transition from grassroot football to professional level.

Speaking in line with the State governor Babayaro said, “competition. Like this would take the youth from the streets away from drugs and other substance abuse”

He said if such competition would be organised by more people, Kaduna would be great again, “Kaduna is a transforming state, where we raise players and transform them to great players, any league or club you go to, there must be at least a player from Kaduna, this is what we are doing in the past and as we are getting older, younger people like Yusuf are taking over from us” he concluded.

The sponsor of the competition. Engineer Yusuf Abubakar who promised to make the competition better next year by rebranding and expanding the level of participant.

He said he would yield the advise by many soccer stakeholder who have clamour for a wider reach and the competition will extend beyond Angwan Rimi while the name would be changed.

On seeing talents from the competition progress he said “when we started this competition, I send invitation to official not only within the locals even at international. Level, the secretary of the U-23 was here,  we have call in coaches from different clubs, coaches of Kaduna United and other coaches outside to come and see the talents that is abound in our local community I am quite. Impress I am quite happy that. All of them came in.

He said the aim of the competition has. Be achieved and urge the people of the state to. Appreciate peace and ensure peace is sustained while appreciating all those who. Made the competition a success.

First. Edition runners-up, Rimi Youth Football Academy beat Makama Football Club 2-1 in the final match to lift the cup, while in the Third place match. Played earlier, Green Soccer Football Club defeated Mutunchi Football Academy 6-5 in a penalty shootout after the regulation time ended 1-1 to lift the third place trophy.

Bello Yaro of Makama FC emerged tournament top. scorer with 4 goals while Muntari Saidu of Rimi youth Football Academy was named tournament MVP with coach Jamilu of Rimi Youth going home with the best coach award.
