Siasia names 42 for Egypt, says its ‘must win’ game

Super Eagles interim Coach, Samson Siasia has released a list of 22 home and 21 foreign-based players that will play against Egypt over two legs in a Nations Cup qualify later this month.

And the coach has said that both first leg tie in Kaduna on March 25 and the return leg in Alexandria four days later are must win ties.

He craved for the support of Nigerians and the press so that the task would be achievable.

“We will do everything humanly possible to make sure that we emerged victorious in both legs,” he said.

He also pleaded with the NFF to suspend the domestic league to give time for ample preparation.

“I know a little bit about the Egyptians, we played six of them at the U-23 Nations Cup in Senegal. And there is no way they will not fall in Kaduna.”

He said he was inviting more home-based players because of the weather Kaduna.

“Any foreign based that could last the weather will be quickly replaced by a home-based player,” he said.

The foreign based invitees are Carl Ikemeh, Apeyi Daniel, Abdulahi Sheu, Efe Ambrose, Elderson Echejiele, Stanley Amuze, Keneth Omero, Mikel Obi, Kelechi Ihenacho, Azubjike Okechukwu, Obabona, Ogenyi Onazi Ahmed Musa, Simon Moses, Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses Odion Igjalo and Aaron Samuel.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has moved up one place in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday, March 3.

Super Eagles are ranked 62nd in the world and 11th in Africa.

The three-time African champions occupied the 63rd spot in the world and 12th in Africa for the month of January.

In Africa, Cape Verde are on top of the ladder in Africa and 31st in the world while Cote d’Ivoire are second in Africa and 36 in the world and Algeria third and 37th in the world.

Other top-ranked Africans in that order are Ghana (41), Tunisia (47), Senegal (48), Egypt (53), Congo DR (58), Republic of Congo (59), Cameroon (61) and Nigeria (62) respectively.

Nigeria’s next opponent are Egypt who the Super Eagles will battle in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) double header first on Friday, March 25 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna and later on Tuesday, March 29 in Alexandria, Egypt.

In the world Belgium are still dictating the pace as the world’s best football nation while Argentina, Spain, Germany, Chile, Brazil and Portugal followed in that order.

The trio of Colombia, England and Austria completed the top best 10 teams in the world.

The next FIFA world rankings will come up on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
