Rotarians make case for less
privileged

By Osei Peters

A former chairman of Edo
State Civil Service Commission, Rotarian
Eddy Ikponmwen has appealed to the larger
society to have the spirit of benevolence
towards the less privileged as it is needed to
make the world a better place to live in.
Ikponmwen made the appeal while
receiving an Annual Role Model Personality
Awards in recognition of his self discipline
and excellent conduct from the Rotary Club
of Benin, Kings Square on the occasion of
award and fund raising to support Project
Charilove Rehabilitation Centre.
Rotarian Ikponmwen said the award is given
without expecting returns.

“The may decide to pick an oil Magnate who
will give them big money in return; rather,
they looked at character and contributions
to the development of the society”.
“This award will spur me to do more for the
society and mankind; I will utilize every
opportunity I have for service and will put
my best to change the society, he
concluded.
Chairman of the event, Mr. Richard Iyasere
said the purpose of the gathering was to
carry out a very special service for the
society and we have chosen project
charilove that takes care of the less
privileged in the society.

“Project Charilove works with special
children and we are here to support them
to ensure the body moves forward and
continue to cater for the needs of the less
privileged in our society.
“We are here to raise fund to complete a
building structure in the premises of the
body”, he said.
Iyasere said the money needed to complete
the structure is huge but the rotary club
king square, Benin has agreed to help and
support the project”, he added.

President, Rotary Club of Benin king’s
Square Rotarian Chris Omusi while
thanking guests for identifying with the
cause also called on them to show love to
the less privileged in the society.
Omusi said the Rotary Club of Benin, Kings
Square is just one year old and “we have
done so much for the society and will
continue to do more.

“This is our first award’ we gave it out, not
for financial or material gains, but to
encourage those that have contributed
their best for the growth and development
of the society.
Rotary Ikpownmwen deserves this award
for his sincere contributions to the society.
If we have money, we will go to five star
hotel to present this to him, but, not
withstanding the value of the award is not
less”, he concluded.
