Nigerian Breweries Bags KNSG Award for Providing Multimillion Naira CSR

Kano State Government through its Government Technical College has given an award to the Nigerian Breweries Plc for it continues support in education and human oriented projects.

 Kano State Deputy Governor Professor Hafiz Abubakar who also doubles as Commissioner for Education Science and Technology was ably represented by the Executive Secretary Science and Technical Schools Board Alhaji Ahmed Tijani Abdullahi at the Commissioning of the block of class rooms, library, laboratory, Toilets and bole holes built and donated by Maltina brand under Nigerian Breweries Plc.

Abdullahi who presented the award on behalf of GTC, revealed that ‘’the Kano  Government Technical College decided to award Maltina a brand of Nigerian Breweries Plc. for its support in education pointing that the company in 2014 also built and donated similar projects at Government Secondary School, Bachirawa and today we are also commissioning another gigantic block of class rooms with state of the art facilities, libraries well equipped , laboratories and toilets, like I said this award is for their support for human development especially in a crucial sector like Education’’

Abdullahi also stated that the state has been lucky to get 125 of such donations from individuals, students associations, PTA and corporate bodies. ‘’we have received 53 donations from individuals, 30 from students associations, 25 from Parent Teachers’ Associations and 17 from corporate bodies numbering 125’’

He further reiterated the commitment of the Ganduje led administration in ensuring education for all via continues partnership with individuals, corporate bodies and group stressing that the partnership with corporate bodies like Nigerian Breweries Plc. has reduced the congestion of pupils/students in classrooms from 90 to 40 per class with more quality of learning materials.

Speaking earlier, the guest lecturer Professor Kamilu Sani, who is a professor of Political Science said ‘’ Government must declare a state of emergency in Education since the quality and standard of education has fallen’’

According to him, ‘’Education is the bedrock for development, Nigeria as a country has remained underdeveloped because of poor education standard, in the 1970s places like Dubai were looking up to Nigeria but  now the reverse is the case since Nigerians now set Dubai as target for themselves’’

Speaking at the event Managing Director Nigerian Breweries Plc. Nicolaas Vervelde who was represented by the Public Affairs Manager, North Mr. Danjuma John-Ekele said ‘’ We are proud to be a veritable partner to Kano State. Kano is Special to us – supporting us towards achieving our business success. Kano is home to Maltina in the North. And this year, we are having our third straight educational project in Kano with the first in Government Secondary School, Bachirawa, Ungogo Local Government in 2014; Government Girls Secondary School, Badawa in 2015 and today, Government Technical College – our premier Technical school destination in Northern Nigeria’’

 

‘’We have gathered here today at GTC Kano to commission and handover the school structures provided by Nigerian Breweries Plc.

 

‘’The new facilities include: newly constructed block of 5 classrooms, toilets, borehole and library furniture and renovated Physics and Chemistry labs that will serve the school.  It also pleases me to inform you that the classrooms and library are furnished with students’ desks, chairs and tables for teachers, with provision of text books.

 

‘’Thus, in the last three (3) years, we have provided 17 Classrooms, about 340 student desks catering to an average of 1,020 students per session, 2 Libraries, over 300 book titles, 2 Staff rooms, 2 boreholes, 16 toilets …(and counting) to three (3) schools in Kano. This is a significant social investment milestone for any company and we have done it in Kano.          He stressed.

 

Recalled that ‘’This month alone, in the North, NB Plc. have commissioned a hospital block with a delivery couch, mattresses, filing cabinets in Makera Health Care Center, Kaduna; block of 6 classrooms & furniture, a lab, library & books, toilets and borehole in Government Science and Technical College, Bukuru, Jos; another block of 6 classrooms & furniture, a staff room & furniture, library & books and toilets in Government Senior Secondary School, Kofar Yandaka, Katsina.
