MNCH Week 2016: KDSG, UNICEF to Vaccinate 85% of Children Under 1

…..De-worms 90% of Children of 12-59 months

As part of activities to commemorate this year’s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), week, the Kaduna State government supported by United Nations Children’s fund (UNICEF), will vaccinate at least 85% of children age 0-11 months with Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), BCG, HBV, Penta, PCV, Measles and Yellow Fever (YF) vaccines.

90% of children 6-59 months will also be administered with Vitamin-A, and  at least 90% of children aged 12-59 months will also be de-wormed. 

Addressing a team of media monitors assigned to monitor activities throughout the week, leader of the team, Hajia Mairo Taheer, of Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC), added that, at least 80% of pregnant women will be educated on Danger Signs of Pregnancy / hand washing demonstration.

According to her, “Fe/Folate will be distributed to at least 80% of Pregnant Women. Also to distribute SP to at least 90% of Pregnant Women.

“HIV testing and counselling services will be provided to 103,038 pregnant women that attend ANC in 488 Non PMTCT  MNCHW facilities across the 23 LGAs of the State and refer all HIV+ pregnant women identified during the week to 467 PMTCT sites for Maternal ARVs.”

20% of Children 0-59 months will also be given Birth Certificates.

The MNCH week begins Monday 28 November through Friday 2nd December 2016, to be flagged off by the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El-rufai. 

Activities marking the week are expected to be taken place simutaniously in all the 23 Local Government Area in the State.
