By Alex Uangbaoje, Kauna

Following the unrest in Kaduna State in the last few days, a group, Health4All Media Initiative (HAMI), has commended the efforts of the Kaduna State Government, all security agencies in the state, Media and Health Workers for their swift response.

HAMI, in a statement signed by the Secretary, Sola Ojo, while commiserating with those that lost their loved ones and property to the crises, noted that their timely response helped in curtailing the crisis and thereby reducing casualties.

HAMI is a group of media practitioners advocating for improved healthcare delivery in Nigeria in furtherance of Nigeria attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

According to the statement, “we also commend the efforts put in by State Government, Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Nigerian Army (NA), Nigerian Security Civil and Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Health workers, Journalists and other essential workers during the unrest in the state.

“We equally commend the cooperation of local residents with the security operatives which we see as an important ingredient in our collective bid to the restoration of peaceful co-existence in our dear state while critical stakeholders work towards the remote and immediate causes of these challenges, with a view to finding solutions to bring about lasting peace.”

HAMI observed that due to the 24hour curfew imposed by the State government, there is the natural possibility of the increase in sexual activities amongst both the married and unmarried.

“HAMI would like to use this opportunity to urge all men, women and or teenagers who are sexually active, be there married or unmarried to please consider the use of family planning commodities that suits them.

“This is to forestall the ripple effects of having unplanned pregnancies which plays a huge role in the reason why the state finds itself in an unpleasant situation today.

“The benefits of which range from not only the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and unsafe abortions but also to guide against unplanned pregnancies that can ultimately lead to uncared-for-children as evident in the number of street urchins, vagrants and young drug addicts that we see on our streets today.

“Many of these youths, become ready tools in the hands of evil masterminds who seek to disrupt Kaduna state’s determination to be great once again for their personal or political goals. While their own children enjoy the best of religious and western education both within and without our country, Nigeria.

“While the state government, religious leaders and traditional rulers continue to assiduously work together, towards addressing not just the recent unrest in the state but also the burden of about 10.5 million, out-of-school children amongst other challenges, it behoves on us all to bear only the number of children that we can adequately cater for.

“As this in itself, is an act of obedience and worship of the Almighty God, to whom we all hope to give good account, on the day of reckoning. The statement added.
