Four Boko Haram members set
ablaze

Suspected members of Boko Haram
yesterday stormed Tafawa Balewa
town in convoy of 23 Hillux vehicles
at about 7:31am and started
shooting sporadically killing two
youths and three members of
vigilante in Gital village in Tafawa
Balewa local government area of
Bauchi state.

A source told newsmen
that over 3,000 rampaging youths of
the area captured four suspected
members of the Boko Haram and
seized five Hilux vehicles belonging
to the insurgents and set them
ablaze.

According to an eye witness account,
the angry youths burnt the corpses
of the suspected insurgents to ashes
and chase the other members into
the bush.

Another version of the story has it
that the suspected Boko Haram
members are said to have operated
with 23 vehicles and several
motorcycles.

Meanwhile, the youth leader of Za’ar
Cultural Association Yusuf Maigani,
said the culprits came through
Bununu and resisted repel by armed
security men while shooting
sporadically in the air to scare the
residents.

A security source said the suspected
Boko Haram had set ablaze a police
station in Bununu earlier before
proceeding to Tafawa-Balewa.

The source said the defense
headquarters immediately mobilized
a fighter jet to dislodge the
insurgents, investigations
revealed that the fleeting Islamist
militants who were being chased by
security and youths of Tafawa
Balewa town killed three vigilance
group members in Gital village after
killing two persons in Tafawa Balewa
town.

The three killed vigilante members
namely; Musa Maidoya, Inuwa Musa
and Bature Abdullahi, all male and
age 40.

The Police Public Relations Officer
( PPRO), of Bauchi State Command,
DSP Haruna Mohammed in a
statement made available to
newsmen in Bauchi said the gunmen
stormed the town in a convoy of
eighteen Hilux vehicles.

He said: “on the 30/3/2015 (Monday)
at about 07:30hrs (7:30am),
unknown gunmen stormed Tafawa
Balewa town in a convoy of Eighteen
Hilux vehicles and started firing
sporadically in different directions.”

According to the statement, “Joint
police and local vigilante group in
the town who got wind of the
approaching hoodlums engaged
them in a fierce gun battle which
forced them to abandon four Hilux
vehicles mounted with Anti aircraft
machine guns and retreated back
towards Bununu after sustaining
heavy casualties.”
DSP Mohammed added that,
“rampaging youths in the town
numbering over 3000 burnt down
four corpses of the attackers and
recovered the Hilux vehicles.”

He further added that two empty
shells of 12.7mm ammunition of AA
were also recovered at the scene.
DSP Haruna Mohammed disclosed
that the attackers killed 3 vigilante
members in Jitar village in Bauchi
Local Government Area of the State.

“Meanwhile, the same hoodlums
went back to Gital village in Bauchi
LGA and killed three vigilante
members namely Musa Maidoya,
Inuwa Musa and Bature Abdullahi.

According to him, Police detectives
attached to Township Division visited
the scene and evacuated the victims
to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa
Teaching hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi
for medical and postmortem
examinations.
