Former Kaduna Governor, Yero Declares for Governorship, says, Kaduna State Needs a Detribalised Leader

By Alex Uangbaoje, Kaduna
The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has said that the state as it is now needs a detribalised leader with conviction and vision that will turn the tide of it’s fortunes.
Yero, who was defeated at the last election in 2015 by Governor Nadir El-rufai, added that the state need a leader with fear of God to be able to harness the vast human and material resources for the wellbeing of the good people of Kaduna.
This was contained in his letter of intent he submitted to his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday at the party’s secretariat to indicate his interest to contest the party’s ticket to run for the 2019 gubernatorial election.
He accused the incumbent governor of loosing sight of his responsibilities of providing security and improving the welfare of the people, saying, “the state government no longer cares about the primary purpose of her existence which is to provide security of lives and properties as well as improve the welfare of citizens. Lives and properties are being lost daily due to activities of armed banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery youth thuggery and street gangsterism.
“It is with deep sense of moral responsibility and high resolve, I formally write to inform you about my decision to vie for the gubernatorial ticket of our great party the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“This decision was informed by the genuine concern of our people and the numerous calls I have received to contest in the forthcoming gubernatorial election of our dear Kaduna state.
“Having considered the plight of my people, I have consulted widely with my family members, key party stalwarts, political associates and other party faithfuls and have come to the conclusion to grant the wishes of my people by declaring to contest the gubernatorial elections by the Special Grace of the Almighty Allah.
“We are living witnesses to the myriad of problems facing the State Governance since May 29, 2015 has been a series of half-hearted trial and errors, with disastrous consequences on the people particularly the common man.”
He added, “the relative peace and harmonious co- existence hitherto being enjoyed in Kaduna state is under serious threats. It is unfortunate that the citizens have never been more divided than they are now.
“I believe that my humble track record of academic achievements and working experience in both private and public , have earned me tremendous knowledge, skills and capacity to understand the multiple expectations of our people across the state.
“I am quite aware of the task ahead is daunting but as a unifier, who hope to rise above divisiveness, sentiments and pettiness, I am convinced that the task is not unsurmountable.
“These challenge require among other things, collective will to forge ahead in solidarity backed by dynamic, credible and purposeful leadership.
“I have had the opportunity to have successfully served the state in various capacities as Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Deputy Governor and subsequently the Governor.”
According, to the former Governor, “at the political front, I wish to state humbly that my unflinching support and loyalty to our great Party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is incontestable. Since the lost of our great party in the 2015 general elections, i have contributed in no small measure by the party at all levels.
“My commitment and loyalty to the party has made me undergo humiliation and persecution. However, I will not be intimidated or shaken, I will remain a loyal party man at all times.
“With a legacy of commitment to service, I will endeavour to lead and to do the best I can to state. Kaduna state needs a leader that will turn the tide of fortunes of the state, a detribalised leader with conviction vision and above all, a leader with fear of God to be able to harness the vast human and material resources for the wellbeing of the good people of Kaduna state.”
