COAS Slashes Fees of all Military Schools by 50%

As part of his vision to ensure that all military schools in the country are affordable, Nigeria,s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General, Tukur Buratai, has slashed all military school fees by 50%.

This was disclosed in Zaria at the weekend by Major General, Adamu Abubakar, Chief of Administration Nigerian Army, during the 2016 Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Nigerian Military School (NMS).

He said the COAS is doing so much to ensure quality education for children, saying “apart from NMS that don’t pay school fees, he has drastically reduced the school fees of all the command school by 50% of what they use to pay, by September there will another reduction from what they paid last year.

“I think this is a good stand for us to have qualitative education for our children and environment for which we operate. So far a lot has been done in the last one year, a lots of interventions has come in terms of additional teachers, several infrastructures and so many other that COAS is doing.

“You can see from the reflection of today that we have about 98% of NMS students that passed the NECO exams very well, and we are so sure that at the end when the WAEC results are out we are likely to have up to 100%.”

Earlier, Brigadier General, Murkthar Bunza, Commandant, NMS, said that as part of efforts to improve the wellbeing of students in the school, the reached out to its alma mater and senior personalities in the country, which he noted attracted one of the ex-boy, General Olonisakin, Chief of Defence Staff who has “sponsored the total renovation, modernization and re-equipping of the school kitchen and 7 dining halls.

“In addition, other distinguished personalities among the ex-boys have committed themselves in one project or the other to enhance the general development of the school.”

Brig Gen. Bunza, explained that the standard of discipline entrenched in the school over the years is still being sustained among the boys and staff of the institution but however, call on the government and well meaning individuals and organizations to provide the school with more accommodation for both the staff and student.

“Apart from the insufficient number of accommodation, the few available ones are weak and dilapidated due to aging. The school is in dire need of additional residential accommodation for its officers in order to cater for their accommodation needs.” He said.
