Atiku Loyalists Set to Leave Edo APC

Some loyalists of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are planning to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

One of the loyalists, who pleaded for anonymity, said talks were already on with the state leadership of the PDP.

The source said many of them are still silent on their defection plans because Atiku is yet to make a formal declaration to the PDP.

State spokesman Chris Nehikhare said many members across the state have declared their intention to join the PDP. He added that the defection would begin after Atiku officially joins the PDP.

His words: “I can confirm that talks are on and many of the APC members are ready to join the PDP.”

But State Secretary of the APC, Lawrence Okah, said no member of the party will follow Atiku to the PDP. According to him, it was the APC harvesting PDP members and not the other way round.

“It is the PDP that is talking; nobody in APC has said he wants to leave the party because of Atiku,” he added.
