Oshiomhole, has been fingered as the brain behind the plot to unseat the National chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

The move, which is gathering momentum, is being supported by some APC chieftains, who would rather Oshiomhole succeeds Oyegun when his tenure ends November this year than allow the current chairman to retain the post.

According to the Co-ordinator of the Buhari-APC disciples, a pressure group within the party, Chief Josiah Ilebun, Oshiomhole is spearheading the campaign because he has failed on two occasions to curry the favour of Oyegun.

“Oshiomhole, who is pretending to be unaware of the history of Benin where the Obaseki family played an ignoble role when the British invade the kingdom in 1897, and is documented to have attempted to usurp the Obaship, is hell-bent on imposing a descendant of Obaseki as his successor and will do so at all costs.

“He went to Abuja with a list of former APC members whom he frustrated out of the party and asked Oyegun to replaced them, using his over 500 aides of Special assistants and Executive directors. When the plot failed, he suggested a fresh congress to elect delegates for the governorship primary, but again lost”.

Chief Ilebun, who said it is a shame that trouble for the APC National chairman emanates from his state governor added that, “Oshiomhole is so angry with the National chairman of the APC and is busy working hard at removing him so that he can also be the Edo godfather despite being the apostle of, ‘ One man One vote’, and , ‘Let the people lead’, slogans.

In a related development, another group called, Concerned Edo Leaders of Thought, CELT, also confirmed the alleged plot by a prominent governor in the south-south, to succeed if Odigie-Oyegun if he is removed.

CELT chairman, Colonel Paul Ogbebor said, “the continuing saga surrounding the plot to unseat Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, as the national chairman of the APC, is worrisome”, alleging the governor that is plotting the removal of Oyegun, also wants to impose his candidates as governor and deputy governor in the 2016 Edo state governorship poll.

“As a group, CELT passionately seeks to ensure that justice is done to Edo people in a polity that marginalizes those whose interests are not properly protected and represented due to intimidation or other self-serving exigences, by the larger majority.

“Time will tell and no matter the outcome, our position and support for Chief Odigie-Oyegun remains unwavering”, it said in a statement.

Chief Odigie-Oyegun, was the first National Chairman of the APC, who midwifed the electoral victory of the present government.
