The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has pledged to remain an agent of change for children irrespective of the challenges he may encounter. ‎

‎Recall that, Emir sanusi had proposed a family law for Kano which has been a subject of debate in public domain for some time now.

He affirms that change is always difficult in any society especially when it touches on their old tradition, ‎reiterating his determination to ensure that he brings positive change to the lives of his people.‎

‎The Emir, made the commitment, in his remark when he received the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Representative in Nigeria, Mohammed Malick Fall, in his palace in Kano.‎

UNICEF, Representative in Nigeria, Mohammed Malick Fall, addressing Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, when he visited the Emir’s Palace.

Sanusi, who attributed ignorance of parental responsibilities as part of the reasons why some people are having numerous children, added that the situation is  accountable for numerous social problems the society is facing today.‎

He said about 3 million children in Kano are out of school due to ignorance of their parents on their responsibility to their children’s educational up-bringing.

He therefore, advised parents to change their thoughts and perceptions about the education of their children especially girl-child saying it is the only way the society could achieve the desired change.

On parental responsibility, he stressed that “for you to have kids you must make sure that the responsibility of their education, health, and general up-bringing both morally and otherwise are part and parcel of what a parent should do.”  ‎

“it is not only giving birth to the child that matters, but how to take your responsibility as a parent to bring-up that child to grow and be a benefit to the society in general. If people are aware of this they will not even have many kids that they know they cannot take care of.”‎

He decried the spate of street hawking in Kano even among children of school going age saying if the parents had rising to their responsibilities the issue would have reduced.‎
He called on various stake-holders including the Ulamas, technocrats, students and youth leaders to support and promote his developmental initiatives for the good of the general society.

On his part, ‎Mohamed Fall‎, emphasised that child development is all about positive behaviour change and collective commitment for children‎.

He, commended the Emir over his visionary leadership and advocacy on issues relating to children especially girl-child education.

The Country Representative however called on the Royal to pray and support him to succeed as he discharges his responsibilities in Nigeria. ‎
